INSPIRED BY DOING

My professors have been kind enough to bring in some amazing magazines from the 80's and 90's that have beautiful examples of experimental or grunge typography. Seeing them almost makes me sad, it seems to be a dead art in todays print. The idea of using or abusing type as a pictorial element interests me a great deal. The concept of types ultimate function to is to become "air" destroys the potential interest dynamic type can create. Air is square. I choked up on it so bad while designing my magazine that I stopped having fun. The "destroy your grid" day in class is what kicked off my lust for further developing my magazine as it opened up its beautiful potential of general non-squareness.
